Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya protects a semi-arid landscape along the Ewaso Ng'iro River, home to species rarely seen elsewhere - Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx, known as the Samburu Special Five.
Lion, leopard and elephant are abundant, while the river attracts crocodiles and abundant birdlife. The reserve offers a quieter, more exclusive safari than the Mara, with strong cultural ties to the Samburu people.
